October 5th 1862 Dear sister it seems to me a great while since I have heard from any of you at home I have got over the measles now but I am very weak yet we are in louisville now I got here yesterday Israel is here with me now he is sick to we had a good time a comming down here I wish you could see what I have the Rebels are within 14 miles of us now our men went out yesterday to meat them tell mother not to worry about me because I can take care of my self when we get out of meat we try to find a sesesh hog & we generly find one I have not got to my Regiment yet the moring we got here our Regt marched out so I could not get any money yet [Written on the left side of Scan 1] the african gentlemen [illegible in original] are verry plenty here but as soon as possable I will send some all I have got is one dollar I hope when you get this you will write to me tell all the folk to write to me I dont fl fell under any obligations to write to any bod till they write to me then I will try to answer them direct your letters to Guy I Scofield Company H 23 Reiment Michigan Infav Cincinnatti Ohio antry I cannot write any more now my han trembles so I can hardly write atall but I think we shall be home in afew months & then I dont think we shall have to come back again there has ben one of our Co got poisend by the Rebels but I dont eat any thing but what I know where it comes from I dont go to any grocery to get any thing to eat atall because there are a great many [Written on left side of Scan 2] sesesh here that pretent to be [illegible in original] men they will poisen October 5th 1862 Dear ma and pa. I have not heard from you since I left home. But I should be very glad to, you must write once aweek any way. and now as I think of Dear Grandma I want you to tell her that She is not forgotton byme and that she Still remains dear to my memory. and always will. I am not verry well at the present nor have not I been for f over a wek. but ^ am getting better now. my old clothes were Stolen from me or I should have sent them home but you have other things of more consequence to remember me by. I have moved from the camp where I was but I am still in Lou sight of Louisville. Direct your letters the same as I told you evry soldier they can get a chance to they are the men we look out for but I must stop now so Good by from your Brother in [Contuckey?] I send you some veres the other time that I wrote to you & where ever I am they will follow me up tell fan Fanny and Willie that [Illy?] would like to see them verry much Inded let Fanny write some in your letters.
