Cincinnati Nov 23 1862 Dear friends at home how I wish I could be with you to night but I am glad I can be here for Guys sake and should have [illegible in original] him if I had not come and twill be Long at last before he can do any thing but I shall be so thankful to get him home he is gaining slowly but I and all think surely and has been ever since I commenced giving Dr. Gates med which has to be kept secret here noone here but myself Israel Guy and One nurse knows anything about it the Dr thinks he is doing the miracle himsef but we throw all his med in the fire we have every thing we need for his comfort at the expense of Government wine brandy sugar or any thing we wish for but Guy is so nervous and there is so much confusion that it keeps him down longer than if it was quiet night before Last 6 Sick soldiers were brough or came into our room and last night a wounded one came this ward has 13 bed and they are full there are now about [illegible in original] sick and wounded now here Night before Last one that came then died before morning I stay with Guy all the time I have not undressed and been to bed for 5 nights I take turns with the nurses and lie down on abed close by him so I can put my hand on him and jump at short notice Just as soon as it will do for him to start I shall come be good to [illegible in original] and all take good care of every thing I am very sorry that Israel has got to go he is not able but I think he can get discharged easier there than here poor boy I shall hate to see him start I shall [write?] home often but I want to hear from you why dont you write I have written to aunt Linda today I expect to see Mr [illegible in original] before I come home good bye till next time which [Written on right side of Scan 2] will be soon
