Camp Suffolk Va May 5th 1863 Rev. BF.Thomas Sir I have but just got back to Camp from [illegible in original] [and?] scout [illegible in original] have not Seen your Son Amos yet but am informed by Steward [illegible in original] that Amos is in a very critical condition his case is not hopeless but very Critical he has the Small Pox which he brought here with him he is at the Small Pox Hosp. _ital and is receiving All the Attention that can ben _ifit him. I would think that if you [illegible in original] Seeing him it would be well for you to come here as Soon as you can After receiving This I think this Letter is All that you will need to pass through, I will waite untill I hear from Amos before I Close this, 8 oclock I have just received your Letter as it has no date I Couldnt tell I see that it was mailed May 1st it has just came to hand, if Amos Should Die Which I think he will not this time I do not think that his body would be Allowed to pass over any Road under any Circumstances as it would [illegible in original] endanger the Community^ which it would pass, and I have just heard from Amos. I sent an orderly to Ask our Surgeon and he says he is getting along Admirably and he thinks not in danger. his Letters I will have the Dr. to read to him tomorow. our Dr Harlan is a verry excilent man and [illegible in original] I am much pleasured that I can give you So much encourage -ment This evening And I will keep you Advised of any Change for the worse Yours etc John B Loomis P.S.
