Mich Three Oaks Oct 4th 1867 Dear Brother Mother came in this morning and said it was past time for writing to you. About four weeks ago. Father was taken down sick. with he call his spleen. but what was probably a bilious. turn, and has been very sick. he cannot turn over alone in bed now. he lays rather [stupid?] does not say much, but is as rational as he has been since his last sickness, He will not have a doctor. but tries Every thing he can think of himself. He has no appetite and does not Eat anything. his last ide was to have me buy a seringe and feed him porridge at the other end. Mother objects to that way of feeding. It comes pretty hard upon Mother [Written on the left side of Scan 1] They ar working on the new church now he wants so much waiting upon She has a bad cold and is most sick I also have a cold and do not feel well Ed and have done a good deal of watching Sometimes I think Father will not get well. but his consitution is pretty strong and he may get well yet. he might have staid well if he had tried to take care of his health, but he would go posting of to his farm on foot every few days .There is a horse race in town to day. it just came off in full sight of my gallery. a good many people are in town. they patronize the Saloons. but do not help business much. I have done nothing to day, We have not had a letter from you for a long time The "Silver" band. [illegible in original] [Written on the left side of Scan 2] They are building a Harbor at New Buffalo Goverment expends $60,000, there [Written on top of Scan 2] now. James Hunt of New Buffalo is married well, they succeed in keeping ahead of the "brass band" as yet. .. We went on a ride to the lake shore and had a very pleasant time, we have played for some concerts and some festivals. Wm Chamberlain is no longer in the firm of Chamberlain [illegible in original] & [illegible in original] Monday Morning As I did not get this done to send saturday I will finish it to day there is no material change in Father yet, The water mill _ the old [illegible in original] Mill _ burned down a short time ago. it was insured for $2500, it is very sickly north of her. at one time their were 70 persons sick within one mile of the mill, at Three Oaks there is [Written on right side of Scan 3] I am [illegible in original] of my lower [hare?]. I shall use part of it [Written on top of Scan 3] as a dwelling. Berney Crosby is at home not much sickness This is the only peach year we, have had for a long while You was here the last peach year the trees that we sat out have not [boarn?] since [illegible in original] this year but the peaches are very small, We have had a good many robberies here lately. the first office was broken open a short time ago and all the letters opened, they have tried to break into a number of dwellings. but they only succeeded in robbing Wm Chamberlain of a little over a hundred dollars We should be glad at any time to see you at [illegible in original] without a "pile" you could find something to do here, From Your Brother FPWarren [Written on the left side of Scan 4] The [illegible in original] returning south & now [illegible in original]
