letter from you this morning. Yesterday
was my first day of Guard duty. it
came rather tough, as my bowels [illegible in original]
aching, it was a cold night and I
think I must have taken cold in [them?]
as they are very sore today and my [diar?]
is worse. I shall have to report sick
tomorrow.
The news of fall o richmond reached
us by telegraph yesterday. Good news to
the soldiers. There was a boat came in
last night. she commenced firing
a long way before they got to [illegible in original]. and
kept it up until she got here
A boat which came in a few minuts
ago did the same.
I hope the rebellion will be soon ended.
Send weekly papers. I dont know anything
about the state of the war, daily papers

are worth 25 cts here. a person does not
			       them
get much information from ^ unless [illegible in original]
he knows what has been going on for
a few days before. I think I have got evry
paper you have sent so far the [Waverlys?]
come all right.
I think by the time you send again
I shall want some envelopes.
Yo speak of sending a box I shall be glad
to receive one.
Monday Apr. 10. I received a letter
from Ed. Saturday stating that he
had sent a box.
I have had an other run of the
diarea. yesterday the Doctor gave me some
camphor & opium pills which stopped it
till to day. but it shows signs of returning
It makes a person very weak.
I hope I shall get rid of it.
