Bridgeport. ct July 3d 1866 Dear Parents & Brother. I am writing in uncle Fredericks sitting room I got through very well, I made a mistake at Detroit in undertaking to go on the R.R. to Cleveland. the ticket was by the boat. although it did not say so. I returned to Detroit spent the day there. and took the evening boat. Had a state room and slept well. though the Lake was rough. felt a little [dozzy?] or Sea Sick in the morning Wednesday I rode from Cleveland to Pittsburg. and spent part of the day there. It is a dirty smokey city I would not like to live there. took the night fast train to Phil. passed the Allegana Mts by day light scenery very pleasent. I intended to stop at Philadelphia. but when I arrived there I was so tired that that I passed on to New York. took the evening train to Bridgeport at 10 1/2 oclock. staid at Hotel went to [mellis?] in the morning. Sat down and talked with Cornelia and Aunt a few minutes they did not know me, were glad to see me when I made my self known. I then went [ut?] to see uncle who was mowing. I walked part arround the field with him he did not know me I should not have known him. he has grown old fast. his health is rather poor Fred is a quiet boy loads hay for his father. little "Carrey" is the talker a perfect picture of Mother when she was little Blue Eyes high forehead walnut cheecks, and they say talks just as carolin did when she was little all They ^ would like to have you come here and live. Carey Just came in and told me to tell my mother if she would come here.. she would be her little girl then she ran to the other room and asked her mother if she [wasn't?] big enough to help her. she is four years old. she is as well acquainted with me as if she had seen me for years. Cornelia is a fat young lady. her health not very good. Aunt looks well.. The old place look natural. there is an air of neatness about Bridgeport which I like, I like the looks of New York City also. Yesterday I rested to day I am going to town with uncle, I shall look arround pretty well. next week then I will write you all particulars. I like the air here [illegible in original] They have the ague here they say.
