One side of this map provides descriptive notes about the major battles of the Civil War in the South. Created in 1961, it is based on a map that was charted in 1863 and used by General Ulysses S. Grant to plan troop movements. On the flip side, one portion displays major campaigns and battles of the Western Theater and the other portion details the major campaigns and battles of the Eastern Theater (also known as the "cockpit of the Civil War").
