Sep 1th 1863 Detroit Baray Dear Father now having got in camp I thought I would let you know how i got along we went to Detroit on the 3 Oclock train in the morning and then we got to the mustrin ofice at 10 Oclock we got our breakfast before went to muster we had to wait till 3 oclock in the after noon before we wear examined then their was not but 2 throwed out it was preacher Furgason and that little Segar boy or rather the one that worked their their was 9 cowed out after they got their the excuse was that they enlisted to go in the enjeneers and they could not get in so they said they would not go in the cavelry all the rest but then fell in with the cavelry that boy that was to [daebe?] they think that he will get in but they are gon to detroit for to try again for he wants to go so bad we shal no this after noon their is a captain fron the 11 he sais that the prospect is fair for a furlow we shall leave fer jack this after noon or saturday and and then we will get a furlow from their we shall get one saturday or the first of the week or not a tall it is all guess work Stone and my self logdges to geather I catched an awful hard cold the night i staid in adrian it gives me some head ahe other ways i am all right having good old times raising all sorts of fun I have come a crost Isreal Mapes he is a geting along very well my close and my Bounty I will wait it till I see wheather I am a coming home or not if not i will express the to Adrian my close is with [dent?] [flemings?] and we shall keep it till we go to jackson any how and then if we dont come we will send it our bounty we dident draw hear we wont till we get to jackson then we shal draw 82 [or?] and i will express it if we dont come home the prospect is fair of our [earning?] dont write till you hear fron me W Teachout
