This is a letter from Webster Teachout, a Union soldier, to his father. Teachout talks about his fellow soldiers' well-being, including one of his friends in the hospital. His company has been on the move for a while towards the front. Railroads are being built to help them move supplies and soldiers. Teachout wants to hear more from his father, and he also wants to know if he received the money he sent him from his most recent pay check.
