March 20th 1865 Dear father now having a fiew leasure moments to spend I thought I would answer your kind letter which I received to day and was glad to hear that you was all well I can say the same buy my self and all the rest of the boys except Denton Flemings we had to leave him in the hospital at Knoxville he was prety hard up when we left him [Written upside down at top of letter] just got his photograph and I will send it to you and wish you would put it in my album for me and tell all who inquires who it is for he was a brave and noble man I remain as ever your son Webster Teachout Please Direct to Knoxville Tenn [End] it seems to bee in his side he has a heard pane all the time in his back and side I dont know what the [?] ohters call it we are now mooving Slowly towarge the front we moove just about evry other day from 8 to 16 milds we moove just as fast as they can repair the railroad and there is some 12 to 15 hundread men to work/on it all the while we are on the Linch burg railroad in Tennasee the on that leads right to the Salt ville we are in General Thomas Comand there is some 100 thousand troops hear and at Straburg plains which is only 16 milds from hear and som at knoxville they say that they are going to moove and repair the railroad untill they meat the rebs they are reparing one end and our folks ar reparing the other and their will bee a point of meeting some whear and see which has the best right to it I received that photograph also those postage stamps which was in the letter postage stamps are hard to get down hear and also letters are hard to mail hear for there are no regular mail runs we only get mail only once in a weak or to so if you dont hear from me very often you need not worry for I will right just as often as I can and I want you to right to letters a weak and I will asnswer all I can of them tell all the rest of the friends to right if they dont hear from me have you received that money which I expressed to you if not right and let me know and if you have do the same I sent you Sixty Dollars 12=five Dollars bills I rote to you that I should send another box from Knoxville but I did not send it for it would cost as much to express them as they are worth I wish that you would send me James photograph which is in my Album when you right again I have got out Lieutenant Cornal which got shot on the first Salt ville raid I have
