Strawbury Plains Tenn June 1th 1865 Dear Father now having just returned of from along but a very pleasent raid I take this oportunity to let you know that I am well right and tight and hope these fiew lines will find you the same all the boys are well and tough what was on the raid I have not heard from Dent Flemings yet we left him at this place sick [Written upside down at top of letter] old planters houses but I was not lucky enough to get eny thing right soon and often I remain as ever your Son W Teachout all the boys are well and tough probly you have heard how they catched Jef Davis and others herb herb smith has surendered and [End] [Written on left side of letter] that makes thi s whole I believe [End] when we started out but I am in hopes he is at Knoxville well right and tight I stood the raid first trait never enjoyed my self better my horse stood me untill four or five days march of Knoxville then they told me that I could go and traid horses with eny one that I could whear ever I could find one So I went out with a squad of fiteen or twenty more and was gon three days and we all came in mountid in the best of stile fetched in to extry horses gave one to the general one to the brigade doctor that left us all just mounted but as son as we got to a place called moris town they stuck that us an their shoulder I was in hopes that I could get mine to fetch home with me well Father I am inhopes that I can get home and help you hay and harvist this summer their are a great meny reports hear about our geting home and I dont know how true they are but if true we will bee their in the course of a month but you must not make eny calculati ons on me till I come for there is nothing shure I want you to get me just as good a horse as goes them roads als a smart one gainst I get home take some of my money and pay for it for a good hors I must have I am sory that you traded of the gray mair for I wanted one for I am glad that my wheat looks good Some of the boys has made their fortunes on this raid but I was not the lucky one I did not mabe eny thing some of the boys got track of old Jefs gold and went for it and got It they charged Greenville South carolina and broke open the bank and their was a niger told them that they had ben at owk work at the siler wall and they had out a pile of gold and silver so they went for it and got it then company m got a lot to another place and co B a lot to another place and more than half of the boys got watches and gold of the
