This is a letter from Webster Teachout, a Union soldier, to his father. Teachout tells his father he cannot write very much while he is on raids, but encourages his father to write as much as he can. He's hearing many rumors that the war will end soon, but he is not sure when. During writing the letter, Teachout moved camp and pitched his tent in a new place, hurting his hands in the process.
