Lexington Ky January 5th 1865 Dear father now having a fiew leasure nnoments I will wright you a fiew lines and let you know that I am well and enjoying my self well the rome boys are all well and that is in camp their is C Rider W Bond G Ayers W Hovel P Russel they have mot came off from the raid we don’t know whare they be It may be that some of them are captured they was not all to geather I dont think they are all captured but I shouldent bee surprised if some of them was captured I don’t know what ones they [me] bee [Written upside down at top of letter, continuation of last page of letter] this month and the boys can send their money home buy you fetch my watch if you come ore if you can send it close write soon from your [End] [Written on left side of letter] Son W Teachout [End] the Lieutenant of co a sais he thinks George Aayers and William Hovel is taken prisonerr he said the last he said then he was at a fire three days march from the Salt works and then the whole comand was past them and if the comand got past them they probely got taken prisoners these boys that are behind was all dismounted at the salt works my horse was stole from me at the salt works When we started for lexington I footed it three days and to nights and my feet I had frose going to the salt works and they be gon to get sore and I got tired of walking So I up and plaid the same trick on some body that was plaid an me I stole one from the 11th Kentuckey that was whear I think mine went but I dont know it for surtain but enaw -ay I got a great deal beter one than I let go the one that I got fetched me back and is now the best horse in the whole company While siting hear on a hard bick box writing on the company [?] card book I received a letter from you and was glad to hear from you and hear that you was all well that money you sent me I got all right without eny trouble and it came very handy I spent my Christmas Eve and also the day on my horse and New Years the same New on the pike Rodes their was good Sleighing and the pike is most evry rode fore all the main roetes in Kentuckey is paved or rather codamised and just as nice as the pavement in the city of Adrian About our staying l in Lexington I think we sha^ go into winter quarters now and stay untill spring and if you can spend time to come down and see us come a head you never will bee sorry for you will see some of the nice ist country you ever saw and also you will see some military with all the/rest If you can spend time come down the last of this month we are a going to get pay [Continued on first page of letter]
