Mount Stirling Ky January 18th 1865 Dear father now having a litle leasure time I will wright you a fiew lines to let you know that I continue well and hope you the same we are pickiting and doing probase duty in mount Stirling and the prospect is that we will stay all winter we have duty just about evry other day so it keeps us prety busy the boys expect their pay to day if they do their will bee probase duty plenty to do then for their is some that will go down their and get drunk and rais cain in general and that is strictly forbiden the pay master came in day before yesterday and I think that we will get our pay to day but they say that we haint a going to get only to months pay which if we got the full amount we should have four months pay I shal send some home but if we only get to I shal not send eny for I shal haft to get a stove to put in my tent and get some other things what I want and it will use some of it and I want to keep some buy me you spoke of some of your coming down I should like to have you come I think that it would pay you well to see the country Edward could do your chores while you was gon if he couldent get Mr Cowin to help him while you was gon and come if you can the sooner the better Mother I wish you would bake up a bout a dozen mince pies and to or three loves of bread and some frid cakes and a sausage or so and send down to me also a piece of cheas if you have got it and a fiew pounds of butter also a piece of dried beaf would go very well and a fiew apples to fill up if it dont fill with out if some of the rest of the neighbors want to send put it togeather but put a good suply of fried cakes and cookeys and bread and pies in and a good role of butter Send a good big boxfull so it will last a good while for a kind of a lunch when hungry Father send my watch if you have eny chance I want a watch when on duty so as to see how long I am on Father if you come down come right away and if you send me a box send it right away if you dont right and let me know soon as you receive it from your Son W Teachout [Written in Pencil] Direct the box to me to Mount Sturling and dont put in with eny the rest of the neighbors for they are a going to divide up the regiment and station us at diffirent points up Kentuckey and we may not be togeather sure could [End] [Written upside down in middle of letter] get it come just the same I shant bee a great ways of the stage is going to run right whear we are r wright soon from you^ Son W Teachout [End]
