Recommendations versus reality : factors related to parental engagement practices within school-parent compacts in a low-income community
Research over several decades has clearly demonstrated the benefits of parental engagement in their children's education and development. As a result, schools are increasingly making efforts to support home-school partnerships. The federal government requires school districts that receive Title 1 funding to create school-parent compacts. These compacts describe the manner in which parents and schools will work together to establish such partnerships. The purpose of this study is to examine parents' views of engagement and their motivation to engage in practices within the compacts. -- Abstract.
