Empathy in education : a journey through xenophobic pandas, Hollywood trash, confederate sensibilities, and Mickey Mouse, among other things
Weaving personal and professional experiences together with theory, research, and media, the author details major debates in modern education and suggests ways in which something might be gained in them through the use of empathy. Debates include those about global/international education, the role of motivation and autonomy in teaching and learning, teacher education efficacy, media in education, defining stakeholder-players in empathy and education, and critical theory. The author posits what's worth talking about and what's worth teaching, in the spirit of Alan Bloom. Embracing modern ways of thinking about the world, the author also provides and works through a broad collection of examples.
