This chart represents the average weight of fleece for each year for the differe:.t breeds. The chart begins with Liecester followed by the Merino, Hamoshire, Oxford, Cotswold, Dorset Horned, and Shropshire. It will be scen that the Liecesters shear the heaviest fleece at one yoar.old, it being 11.63%. They gradually decrease in weight of fleece to the fifth year after this time the record ceases. Tne Merino according to the chart, is at its best, as regards weight of flecce, during the second and fourth years. The weight of fleece being 11.5 lbs. and 11.7 lbs. respectively. There being only .2 of lb. difference and this in favor of the fourth year. There is a gradual decreass in the weight of fleece after the fourth year. By the chart the Hampshire show tho greatost weight of fleece at fourts years. There is a gradual increase from tne first year to the fourth,,it being at this time 8.14 lbs. After this year @ gradual decrease in weight of fleece is apparent. fhe Oxfords show a gradual increase in weight of fleece from one year old to four years old, the weight of fleece being 11.39}. The amount of wool sheared for the remaining four years gradually decreascs. The cotswold while shearing a greater number of pounds each year than any of the other breeds for the same year, does not Il. Chart C. continued. produce its heaviest flecce until the sixth year. The fleece weighing 15#. The seventh year it decreases in weight. The Dorset Horned sheared a smaller munaber of pounds than any other of the seven breeds. Its greatest weight of fleece being only 5.99. This was sheared at two years old. The third and fourth years showed a gradual decrease. The record was not kept after the fourth year. The shropshire represent the greatest variety in weight of fleece. The second and fifth years show the greatest weight. It being 7.98 lbs. and 8 lbs. respectivoly. The object of this chart is to show the relation between the weight of the fleece and the length of the staple. The chart was kept for one year only=--1899. The chart is divided into three classes. The first class consists of the sheep of each breed whose weight of fleece is betwoen 5 lbs. and 7 lbs. inclusive. The pnecond class takes in the sheep of each breed whose weight of fleece is 7 + lbs. to 9 lbs. inclusive. The third class considered the sheep of each breed whose fleece weighs 9- lbs. and includes those weighing 30 lbs. In the first class, we have 1/4% of the shropshires included in this list with an average nunber of lbs. of 6.64 and an avorage length of staple of 5.8 in. Of the Merinos there is only about 1/7% included in this class whose fleece weighed 6.1 lbs. and the average lemgth of fibcr was 4.5 in. The Hawpshires have 5/6% included in class I. The average mumber of lbs. was 5.3 with an average length of staple of 5.15 in. Of the Dorset Horned in the flock 100% came in this class with an average menber of lbs. of 5.62 and an average length of staple in inches of 5.7 In class II, we have out of a flock of Shropshires about 1/2% coming under this class whose average weight of fleece was 8.20 lbs. and an average length of fibor of 6.86 in. (No. ) There was only 1/6% of the Hampshires in tho flock who came Il. Chart D. continued. in class II. ‘Tne average weight of flecce belig 8.5 lbs. and an average length of staple of 6.5 ih. Class III includes 1/37 of the flock of Shropshires whose average weight of fleece was 9.85 lbs. and an average length of fiber of 7.88 in. Of the Merinos in the flock 6/7% came in this class with an average of 16.63 lbs. and an average length of fibcr of 3.92 in. Of the Oxfords in the flock 100% came in class III, with an average weight of fleece of 12.13 lbs. and an average length of fiber of 9.15 in. 100% of the Cotswold were included in class three with an average weight of fleece of 12.05 lbs. and an average length of staple of 11.25 in.
