INCREASING PLAY VARABAILITY IN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTURM DISORDER
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often engage in restrictive or repetitive behaviors, including engaging in repetitive forms of play. Play skills are imperative to children’s cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being, and help foster connections with peers. Interventions targeting variability of play are therefore critical for children with ASD to increase problem solving, creativity, and encourage relationships between peers. The current study seeks to examine the effects of a Lag 1 schedule on play variability (i.e., block variability).Results and implications are discussed.
