Different race combination couples and birth outcomes in the United States : from 1989 to 2013
This dissertation has two main aims. The first is to investigate the association between maternal/paternal race/ethnicity combinations and infant fetal growth (low birth weight (LBW) and small for gestational age (SGA)), examining combinations between non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic black, Hispanic, Asian /Pacific Islander and "missing". The second is to investigate whether the association between different combinations of maternal/paternal race/ethnicity and SGA differs by year of birth (1989-2013), and to investigate whether any observed trend can be explained by changes in the demographic characteristics of parents in mixed-race partnerships.
