Implements (object genre)
A cake box was used for the storage of cakes and cookies. It often had small ventilating holes to prevent the contents from becoming moldy. The box shown here is made from tin, which was thought to be the best material for cakes and cookies, while crocks made from a porous stone were thought to be best for bread.
