Hope everyone has plenty of water for your turf. It's been a busy year for the FGCSA. Along with the ongoing legislative issues at the Federal, State and local levels, we have also been addressing the future of our association. Like many of your facilities, we are investigating new ways to generate revenue. Many of our chapters are using the FGCSA to mail renewals and collect dues this new fiscal year. With more chapters asking for this service, we knew we needed to have a new web site; one that would allow us to offer many different options to our members. This should be completed in the next few months. You should have already received our new electronic budget survey. c Editor: Joel Jackson, CGCS (407) 248-1971 (fax/phone) E-mail: FLGrn@aol.com News Coordinator: Jennifer Innes PO Box 65 Jensen Beach, FL 34958 (772) 334-7515 (772) 334-6015 E-mail:fgcsa@comcast.net v The Green Sheet is a bimonthly FGCSA Newsletter printed as follows: Jan/Feb, March/April, May/June, July/August, Sept ./October, November/December. This is just one more of the improvements we have made to help increase the ease of gathering useful information from our members and save money on postage and handling costs. We continue to seek ideas and input from the Board and our members, and always with the best interest of our entire membership in mind, these decisions are made. Since this is my last Green Sheet message, I would like to remind you to take an active role in your local chapters. Attend as many monthly meetings as you can; volunteer to write a "hands on article" for the Florida Green. Together we can make a difference. Remember, numbers and participation counts when we unite to solve the issues that confront our industry. Legislative update: The Hillsborough County Environmental Leadership Council (Commissioners) heard 3 hours of testimony June 8 , and industry got in their science based reasoning for not having application or sales bans of fertilizer. The day was so long, however, the council voted (6-1) to adjourn making no decision, and wait until their July meeting to decide about their fertilizer ordinance. Will science prevail? I hope you are keeping cool and enjoying these hot summer days. I have been very busy processing membership renewals. I now have the pleasure of collecting dues and membership information for the Everglades, Palm Beach, Treasure Coast, West Coast and Seven Rivers Chapters. Each trip to the mailbox reaps more mail than the one before and keeps me very busy. As I mentioned in the previous Green Sheet, the FGCSA Annual Survey has finally gone out to our members. We are using a company called SurveyMonkey which is enabling us to dissect information by many criteria and ultimately creating value for you. Please help us out by taking the time to fill this out. It is a 60 question survey and will not take up too much of your time. If you did not receive the survey, please send me an e-mail, to fgcsa@comcast.net, with your correct information. I will make sure you get the link. The more responses we gather, the better the information. Thank you for your participation! We are also getting ready to begin the design process for a new FGCSA website using a company called CyberGolf. This will be a very exciting time for the FGCSA. Not only will it open us up to more opportunities to serve our members, but it will also help unite our chapters by providing a web-based database with real time information. In addition, it will offer a members only section and new opportunities for the FGCSA to generate more revenue and provide more services (including credit card processing). Be on the lookout for the new site coming this Fall! As I finish this Green Sheet I am reminded that the FGCSA Summer Board Meeting and Annual Meeting are just around the corner. New officers will be elected and new Director's will be welcomed to the Board. What a great year it has been to work with our current board. And a special thank you to Bill Kistler for your service and commitment to the FGCSA. It has been a true pleasure. Thank you. • • • • • • • 2010 FGCSA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP Southern Dunes Golf Club October 2,2010 A chapter team may consist of 5 players with best 4 out of 5 scores counting.
