Golf in Florida is at its peak this time of year and the tourists are among us playing some of the greatest maintained courses in the world, thanks to the hard work of our members. I would like to congratulate the FTGA and the University of Florida as well as the other supporting organizations, on the official opening of the Envirotron. Dedication was on November 19th. The 3,100 square foot stateof-the-art facility is equipped with student housing and all the latest in lab and teaching facilities. With the help of the Florida Golf Course Superintendents and private organizations, the FTGA was able to raise $350,000. In turn the State of Florida Capital Facilities Paul Crawford Trust contributed the matching funds to the project. Congratulations to all involved! Again, the hard work has paid off nicely. The FGCSA Board of Directos will be meeting prior to the Dallas Convention and will be taking a position on the proposed new bylaws, as we did last year. I have been in contact with Randy Nchols and Gary Griggs and feel that we are in a much better position this GREEN S H E E I ^ Editor: Tom Benefield, CGCS P O Box 1783 Hobe Sound, FL 33475 (407)546-8033. Thanks go to the new GCSAA Board which has taken the time to explain them to us through the chapter representative meeting in Lawrence. This is much more effective than the last minute "shove it down your throat" process used by others. You should be receiving a letter very shortly (if you have not already) on the position the FGCSA has taken on the proposed bylaws. It is the Board's feeling to state a position prior to the conference so we can vote on the bylaws on their merit without politics involved. I hope as many of you as possible can make the GCSAA Dallas show. If your club does not let you attend the show, you and your club are missing out. The amount of information received from the education, trade show, and discussions with other superintendents is well worth the trip. For those of you who are going, make sure to mark February 4th on your calendar for the FGCSA reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Make plans to attend prior to going to dinner that evening. Marie Roberts is working hard on this and it should be another great time. Finally, thank you to W. A January/February 1994 Low Gross Team of Mike Swanson, Bob Yount, Randy Mosely, and Cory Lewis at Pasadena Yacht and Country Club 2nd Annual "Bud Quandt" Turfgrass Research Golf Tournament Pasadena Yacht & CC Monday, October 25,1993 by Chip Lewison, West Coast chapter president It has been said that "Hard Work is its own virture." I believe in that statement. I've seen hard work pay off many times over for people and situations. It definitely paid off for the 30th Annual Bud Quandt Research Tournament at Pasadena Y&CC. The hard work probably started about 30 years ago for this event when Charles "Bud" Quandt started the event. Think of the time and effort he put into it for 28 of those years. The last two years Scott Mason and his staff have picked up the pace. Their efforts show their desire to keep the tradition going. The participation of our sponsors shows their interest in our profession and the well being of the entire industry. A special thanks to all our Plantinum and Patron Sponsors. Hard work and special effort were put forth by GregPlotner who has headed the tournament for the past three years. His efforts have grossed over $56,000 and netted over $30,000. Congratulations are definitely in order for him and his committee. Low Gross was won by the team of Bob Yount, Mike Swanson, Cary Lewis, and Randy Mosley with a 57. Low Net was won by the team of Cook and Cook, Harding and Sligh with a 60. 5 Member Activities FGCSA Superintendents attend GCSAA Regional Seminar GCSAA REGIONAL SEMINAR TheFGCS A sponsored a GCSAA Regional Seminar at the Omni hotel in West Palm Beach on November 10th.
