Hello, my name is David Massenberg. I'm a resident of the city, as well as a City of Detroit firefighter for about ten years now. Being a firefighter here in the City of Detroit is a lot of fun, is very family oriented… there's a lot of guys that you work with who are second or third or fourth generation firefighters so that, you know, there's a strong camaraderie. And even for people that come on the job that don't have family, or prior history with the job. We're still a tight knit group of people... come from a lot of different backgrounds, different ages, different races, different genders and things like that. It's one big family... I couldn't imagine doing it anywhere else. The future to me, I'm very optimistic about it. I think we're going in some instances in the right direction far as to the job and the city is concerned. But also me personally, I'm optimistic about my personal future. My family, with my wife and my kids and things like that. So I'm looking forward to it. I have a very good outlook on it and I'm ready for it. To me, being a firefighter means that you have to be willing to risk it all to save someone that you may not know. That's what we signed up for… having that… knowing that there may come a time, where you have to put it all on the line. That's what being a firefighter means to me.
