I'm Zsa Zsa Hubbard - a voice for the people, a community leader. I came from Wyoming, and Intervale area, very heavily populated, violence, drugs, prostitution, and my Mom and Dad would fight a lot… a lot of domestic violence growing up. My father got into some legal trouble and he ended up going to prison for six years. During that time frame, my mother said we had to move from our previous house, and we ended up moving here. I actually started my first business on this block doing nails, and I walked up and down a block knocking on doors, asking could I give them a manicure and a pedicure – I had a bucket and nail polish remover, nail polishes - for just $5. I had my first customer, second house off the corner, her name was Miriam and she had me out there scrubbing her feet. She had these messed up feet and she really made me work for my $5. The blessing in that though, it taught me, one, be careful what you offer when it comes to a service, because people will hold you accountable to that. I told her I did pedicures. She wanted a pedicure. I couldn't argue with that - and then she taught me the value of doing what you say you were going to do, because I ended up getting a $10 tip. I hope to see more established entrepreneurs and businesses in our community that look like me. I wish to see more of a self-assessment, a self-reflection when it comes to being diverse and understanding your bias... understanding why you think the way that you think, and how the way that you think contributes to how you operate.
