I'm Derrick May. I like to live under the mantra that I am a futurist. We created a ball of light and we held it in our hands, and it was up to us when we were going to let it go to the world, expose the world to it - and it was emotional. It was powerful because nobody believed in us and we did it, and then we gave it to the world. 

When we first made electronic music, Detroit Techno, the vision was to focus on being artists and never to let ourselves be known as entertainers, never. This was the focus that we had on this block. It was 30 or 40 people coming over here at all times at night wanting to work on music. There was a basketball court that was going till six o'clock in the morning, people were floating in and out of the studios. It was a level of energy and power and vision that I can't explain. It was just magic.
