I'm Phllis Judkins and I'm the founder of the North End Neighborhood Patrol. We've been patrolling for ten years. I stayed home with my mom, and most the time we sat on the porch and she talked about the neighbors and everything. I think the thing I remember most was she was telling me, she had me to look across the street and she said, you don't know who has the problem. Because they were fussing. And she said, never judge anything from looking in, you know. There's quite a few nonprofits now. When I started, it wasn't many. I got the safe house because there were men in this area, they had felonies and they weren't able to work. So I wanted to help them. So I figured out a way, with the police patrol only thing is that they cannot be personal. They can't have a personal relationship with anyone. So I use them as the observer in the cars and I use them at the safe house as the base person so that they can get paid. But the felony does not apply. I feel real bad that they've gone this long and without working and good guys, really nice smart guys. You know, that was caught with a joint 20 years ago. That's terrible, you know. And so the North End Neighborhood Patrol is a good asset in the neighborhood because we have the safe routes to school where we watch the children go in to and from school and we drive around to the different schools and watch... and then we have the patrol at all evening.
