In addition, Mr. Kieft served on the board of the Christian School and retired from Challenge Stamping and Porcelain and Beverly Enterprises. Described as a handyman who could fix anything, Al's hobbies included woodworking, boat-building, and car-restoration.

Sparrow says that it was always difficult to compete for resources, recruit faculty students and residents, and support top programs in a region as small as Lansing. Bernice conducted this interview in preparation to write a book on Robinson Township history. After her death, her work was continued and published by Olive Gleave and Ruth Horton as Robinson Remembrances in 1998.
