An accident occurred on the Duluth South Shore and Atlantic Railway at Negaunee Station on the 22nd day of July 1887m at 115 oclock pm caused by: Engine of ore train Westbound striking end of switch rail with flange of wheel, rail, letting engine and tender off the rail. No damage done, but casused a delay of 45 minutes to east bound passenger train by blocking track.

A despatch from Ashland Wisconsin states that work has been stopped on the DSS&A extension to West Superior, and that the immediate cause of this is supposed to be the pesident's retaliatory message, as the South Shore is virutally owned by the CPR< Mr. L. M. Schwan, secretary of the company said.

Yesterday morning an idividual who was sufficently under the influence of the bowl that inebriates to make him totally regardless of consequences attempted to board a DSS&A passenger trail at the depot, while passengers were getting off. A braekman remonstrated with him, but without effect. Marshall Scully then endeavored to keep the man quiet , but without avial, and he was finally taken off to jail to sober off.

Monday morning Toussaint Sharkey was run over by the cars at St. Ignace and killed. August, as he was called by the railroad men, was a brakeman on the freight train, and when he made his run down from Marquette Saturday his wife accompained him and spent Sunday at the Point. She was returning on the train which killed her husband. It is not known whether his foot slipped or whether he had a fit and thus fell under the wheels, as he was subject to fits.
