The South Shore has a construction gang at work putting in a side track to the Iron Valley mine. This property is the discovery of Messers, Ely and others and the developments have been so satisfactory that the place is certainly entitled to the appelation of a mine.
Considerable difficulty was experienced in getting the engine and cars which were thrown off the track Wednesday night at the Buffalo mine on the rails again.
General Manager Fitch of the South Shore, is a popular man with those who hold subordinate positions on the road. The boys have to toe the mark but they know from experience that they will get fair treatment at his hands and faithfulness in their work will be rewarded.
The Iron Port of Escanaba in its last issue, contained an item which said that the American Express Company had retired from the DSS&A and the Soo lines in favor of the Northern Express Company but that the American's force of officers were retained in their positions.
