May 12, 1967 Judge Philip A. Shapiro 4846 North Hamlin Chicago, Illinois Dear Judge Shapiro: Dwight MeKay informed me you have consented for us to conduct a group on a hike across your property on Sunday May 21st. I thank you very much, As you probably know, the township rezoned the Mpnley-Peters area to permit industrial operations, and the creation of a "Yacht Basin" by cutting a channel through to Lake Michigan. On June 6th this decision is being tested by a referendum, If we are successful, the land will revert back to residential classification. My personal opinion is that the majority of people in the township do not Like the idea of sandmining-- many would like to see a residential area developed, Others favor a park for all onaa part of the Grand Mere area, The hike will cross your Land from the beach to the unimproved road near the South Lake area, We expect a couple hundred people if the weather is pleasant, A program at the local high school will start at 1:30 P. M., then all drive to the area. You and your wife would be most welcome to attend the program at the high school. We will give pro- per recognition to the fact we are moving over your land with permission for this one occasion only. May 12, 1967 Incidentally, we plan to try to clean up some of the debris left in the area by those whomhave abused this area in the past. Sincerely, | Frank F.
