Boyden Shingle Mill
Located on the south side of the South Channel between Second and Third Streets, the mill had some 240 employees when the photograph was taken. It was the largest shingle mill in the world at this time and in 1881, 160 million shingles were produced. The business closed in 1882 after a fire destroyed the building.
