Minneapolis Journal, Feb. 7 ~- General W. D. Washburn re~-
turned from the east this morning where he has been for some
time in the interests of the "Soo" bridge. In conversation
about his journey and its results, he said: "The bridge is
practically settled. The commerce committee was not willing
that two bridges should be built at that point, and for that
matter I was not, either. A Detroit company already had a
charter granted in 1882, but we have arranged now so that
everything is satisfactory to all parties. We have made an
arrangement by which the "Soo," the CPR and The DSS&A are to
build a bridge together, and when the Grand Trunk gets the
line to the Sault it is to be taken into the company. The
"Soo" and the South Shore each own a quarter and the CPR a
half, but it will divide with the GT so that finally all will
own equal shares, This agreement has been made with the DM&M
as a party and is satisfactory to them. We wired Mr. Van
Horn from New York a few days ago to get out the material and
go to work at once. It will be a steel structure and will
cost $560,000."
