Accident Report - July 21, 1887. An accident occurred on the Duluth South Shore and Atlantic Railway near Negaunee station on the 21st day of July 1887 at 450 o'clock P. M. caused bys Way freight train east bound failing to stop (as required by law) 200 feet short of the crossing of the Chicago & North West- ern Railway, whereby they struck the cars of a C&NW train pass- ing the crossing westbound, throwing 4 empty ore cars off the track but doing very little damage, trains being almost at a eatand. Engine stood on erossing when it stopped. Trainmen seem to have used poor judgement in not checking speed of train and getting it under control in time to stop’ short of crossing. All hands, engineman, fireman, conductor and 3 barkemen, have been dismissed from the Company's ser- vice. Casualties - Nones A. Watson, General Superintendent.
