As a result of the extension of the DSS&A Ry., there has
been a rush into Gogebic and Ontonagon counties chiefly by
homesteaders, but there has been considerable land opened
up which is well timbered with pine and hemlock, while there
are also a few good cedar swamps. The soil in agricultural
localities being very productive.
