September 3, 1887 Saturday Ishpeming - The amount of travel between the Marquette and Gogebic ranges has bean very large since the latter district was first opened some three years ago and the circuitous route between the neighboring districts has proved a great invon- venience, as well as a source of considerable cost to the people making the trip. During the summer months much of the travel between the ranges has been by water, from Hough- ton to Ashland, but in the winter the shortest way of making the trip has been via Oconto. The Iron River extension of the C&NW was opened for business Tuesday and will shorten the distance by over 100 miles, and the completion of the DSS&A next winter will further reduce the distance by half.
