September 17, 187 Ishpeming & Lively Locality Fifteen years ago Clarksburg, a little village ten miles weot of Ishpeming on the DSS&A had nearly as many people as this ci and bore the reputation of being just as tough as any town of its inches in Mi. At that time the place had a sawaill, planing mill, charcoal furnace, and other industries, employing a large humber of iene Later on the furnace and the mills were closed, and for the past len years Clarksburg has been a quiet hamlet of perhaps 200 people. The work of building the extension cf the CRN hyeming to Michigamae has brought a great many hard characters into the countye Several hundred of them are camp- ed not far from Clarksburg, and they make that place their head- quarters on Sunday. There are saloons in the place, despite its decadence, and when these bad men get inte the saloons ard outside of a certain amount of fighting whiskey there is bound to be a row. last Sunday one man had his arm broken, another had his jaw fractured in two places and another had several fin- gers broken at Clarksburg. There were ts without number, and the respectable ople began to think of moving out of the place.
