Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi. March 5, 1887 Saturday Speaking of The DSS&A, the Railway Register observes that when its construction was determined on it was figured that the distance between northwestern points and New York would be much shorter by that route than by the existing routes via Chicago, but that Boston was not so prominently consider- ed. "Now it appears," continues the Register, “that a pro- ject is on foot to construct a new line from the St. Lawrence river, opposite Brockville, across the state of New York to Rotterdam Junction on the Boston, Hoosac Tunnel & Western road. From this point the West Shore road will form the New York line. The interests that will be served by the opening of the DSS&A are many, and it is probable that no time will be lost in its completion."
