Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi. August 25, 1888 Saturday Michigamme - The roof of the South Shore tank house was des- troyed by fire Monday afternoon and but for the timely assist- ance of the fire department the fine brick roundhouse and the tank would have gone. Five minutes after the alarm of the loco- motive the water was doing effective work and within 20 minutes no fire was to be seen. The fire had been smouldering for some time. It was probably started from a spark from an engine. The fire company did splendid work as usual and Mr. Dolf, the agent wishes to thank them for their prompt response to the alarm.
