The DSS&A has issued the following: "The DSS&A will buy, on
and after December 1, 1888, hemlock railroad cross ties deliver-
ed on the line of the road, until further notice and will pay
16¢ each." ‘Truly the South Shore must be getting hard up when
they have the gall to ask honest labor to furnish hemlock tim-
ber, cut up into ties and pay a team $4 a day to deliver it,
at such rates. Why it's a disgrace to the company and a slur
to the laboring man. They didn't make wages at 22¢ last year.
Wonder if the railroad expects the homesteaders to give away
their stumpage? Not much.
