Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mie January 19, 1889 Hiawatha Division Hiawatha Division, No. 240, Order of Railway Conductors, was instituted in this city last Sunday by H. Hurty,, of Cedar Rap- ids, Ia., deputy grand chief conductor. Eight visiting members of the order were present from Delta divison No. 86, of Escan- aba. The new division starts in with fourteen members and the following officers, elected and installed last evening: Chief Conductor, Thomas Holden; assistant Chief Conductor, James G. Cornell; secretary and treasurer, James R. Lewis; senior Cond- uctor, Joseph Sheffer; junior Conductor, Charles Sundoerg; in- side sentinel, Louis Reau; outside sentinel, David Bailey. The new division has a number of applications for member- ship already before it anc start off with the most flattering prospects. Its regular meeting will be held on the second Sunday of every month at ? pm and on the fourth Sunday at 7 pm. The conductors are under obligations to general manager Fitch, who placed at their disposal a special train after their meet- ing to take the Escanaba visitors and Mr. Hurty up to Negaunee, Conductor Bailey having the train in charge.
