Through to Duluth

Washington dispatches announce that Major H. D. Blackman of this
city and Howell, has succeeded after long and patient work in se-
curing from Postmaster General Dickenson an order for the establish-
ment of a railway mail service over the western division of she DSS&A
from Nestoria to Iron River, a distance of 200 miles. This is equiv-
alent to a through mail service between Marquette and Duluth. An in-
spector had reported adversely on the matter on the grounds that
there were no regular trains on the line, but Major Blackman show-
ed the superintendent that there is now a regular train service each
way daily and that the train schedule would be satisfactory for
mail services along the line. The service is to commence February
1, and will be greatly appreciated by the people of Marquette and
the homestead country. It will greatly shorten the time necessary
for communication between Marquette county and the Gogebic range
towns. Under the new arrangement the Mining Journal will reach
Bessemer at 3:15 pm on the day of publication.
