Source: The Mining Journal Marquette, Mi. September 7, 1889 Ishpeming:- .. . A day or so ago, when one of the South Shore passenger trains stopped at a flag station a few miles west of here, the first class coach happened to be stopped so that each platform of the car was beyond the short station platform. A person could not get on the car without going. down from the depot platform and then stepping up into the car. This a solitary young lady passenger refused to do. The conductor did not propose to back up his train just for the lady to step into the car when she could so easily get on by stepping down on the ground and then getting on the car steps, so after yelling "all aboard" a couple of times he gave the ‘all right" signal and the train pulled out. The young lady's home is in Ishpeming, and she had to walk home that night. .. DSSRA Passenger
