September 14, 1889 The "Soo" Road Cuts The Passenger Rate to the Hast The South Shore May Follow Suit St. Paul, Mn., September 12.-~ To-day it was announced that the "Soo" would put in a rate of $20 to New York and $19 to Boston; a proceeding which wipes out completely the rate between Chicago and St. Paul, as the rates quoted are those now in effet over the differential lines from Chicago to the east. What will be done by the Chicago lines remains to be seen, but some action will probably be taken by the Western States Passenger Accociation, now in ses— sion in Chicago. It is expected the unless some adjustment is made the Chicago rates will be utterly demoralized. General Pass- enger Agent Hibbard, of the South Shore, who is in the city, could not state positively that his road would meet the "Soo" rates, but did not doubt that General Manager Fitch would authorize a corres- ponding reduction. An inquiry at the other offices elicted non- commital replies. hs A C&NW CM&StP MStP&SSM Passenger
