Popular With The "Boys"

General Manager Fitch of the South Shore, is a popular man
with those who hold subordinate positions on the road. The
boys have to toe the "mark," but they know from experience
that they will get fair treatment at his hands and faithful-
ness in their work will be rewarded. A thing that has raised
Mr. Fitch even higher than he was before in the estimation
of the employes of the operating department of the road is
his action in regard to the ball that is to be given by the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen of Marquette Thanksgiving
evening. Notwithstanding the fact that there is a regular
passenger train leaving Houghton at 2:00 pm and those who
wish to attend the ball might very properly be asked to use
that train, Mr. Fitch placed a special train at the disposal
of the firemen and it will leave Houghton at 4:30. There
will also be a return train, and ball tickets will be honored
for passage from both St. Ignace and the "Soo."

The train is furnished the fireman free of charge. It is
such things as this that make Mr. Fitch so popular with his
men, and if the reader does not believe that the general man-
ager is respected by every man on the line, from section hand
up, just let him ask any employe to be convinced.
