Iron Mountain's Chapin Mine
Photograph of Iron Mountain's Chapin Mine, the most famous and most productive on the Menominee Iron Range. It was also among the wettest, due in part to the fact that its immense deposits were situated under a cedar swamp. Water had to be pumped from the mine around the clock to allow miners to extract the ore. The miner in the center was Frank Larson
