=vening News, Mon., June 1, 1998 Gwendolyn F. Abar July 14, 1918-May 31, 1998 FLAT ROCK — Gwendolyn F. Abar, 79, of Flat Rock, died Sun- day in her home of cancer. Friends may call from 4 to 9 tonight and from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home. She will lie in state from 10 until services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Evans Bentley, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Huron Valley Cemetery. Born July 14,1918, in Brook- field, Mo., she was the daughter of John H. and Zelphia (Dunlap) Booth. She married Frederick Abar on Feb. 16, 1941, in Flat Rock. He died on Dec. 12, 1983. She was employed as a nurse by Wyandotte General Hospital, Wyandotte, retiring in 1978. She was a member of First Unit- ed Methodist Church, Study Club, Michigan Nursing Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Flat Rock Chap- ter 156, Order of the Eastern Star. She was past president of the United Methodist Women. She also was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Flat Rock Board of Education. : Surviving are a son, Frederick of New Boston; two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Lynne) Coulter of Lapeer and Susan Abar of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a broth- er, James, and a sister, Wanda Werner. ; Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Flat Rock or the Arbor Hospice.
