/ Charles W. Austin FLAT ROCK — Charles W. Austin, 80, of Flat Rock died at 2:40 p.m. Monday in Seaway Hospital, Trenton. He had been in poor health for years and critical- ly ill for the past week. Friends may call from 12:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Evans Bentley of First United Methodist Church, of which he was a member, officiat- ing. He will be cremated and the cremains will be buried in Michi- gan Memorial Park. Born Dec. 29, 1916, in Northville, he was the son of Harry and Minnie (Rattenberry) Austin. He married Kaye Lapham on Jan. 31, 1943, in First United Methodist Church and had lived in | Flat Rock since 1945. He was employed as a laborer | for MERK (Calgon), Rockwood, | for 15 years, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Mid- | west Mineralogical Society and | Lapidary Society, both of Dear- | born; the Chippers Club of Allen Park; the Wolverine Boy Scout Council of America, and was a scoutmaster for Troop III for 30 years. He enjoyed yard work and often helped others with yard mainte- nance. Surviving are his wife; a sister, Vena Sperry of Allen Park, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William; a brother, Harold, and four sisters, Vivian Graham, Hazel Long, Jessie Talbott and Vina Smith.
