Tim Ua Qugpeat Edward Balyo Former elementary school principal served in Navy Edward Balyo, a former Flat Rock Community Schools elementary princi- pal, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in North Fort Myers, Fla. He was 77. Born Dec. 16, 1924, Mr. Balyo grew up near Detroit. He served in the Navy from’ 1942 to’ 1945 during World War II. After graduating from Michigan State University in East Lansing with a teach- ing degree, Mr. Balyo was an educator for 34 years. In 1969, he began his tenure in Flat Rock as prin- cipal of the former Ever- green Elementary School. The school has since been renamed Bobcean Elemen- tary School. Madonna Przybylo, book- keeper for the school district, said Mr. Balyo was “a very tall, very nice gentleman. “Some of the kids were scared at first of him because he was so tall, but everyone liked him,” she said. onddithe Nous Nevader (8, Aoea Besides his wife, Mr. Balyo also is survived by a daughter, Cynthia, of Elgin, IlL.; two sons, Stephen of Mackinaw City and Rick of Chelsea; three grandchil- dren; and two great-grand- children.
