Born June 4, 1924, in Findlay, Ohio, he was the son of Elmer Dale and Thelma (Beekman) Benjamin. He married Lois Murphy Dec. 5, 1952, in Findlay. He worked for the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad for 36 years, retiring in 1986 as lead clerk. From 1942 to 1945, he served with the 331st Bombardment Group of the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member and past commander of Middlestat- Smith Post 337, American Legion; was past commander of Miller-Strawn Post 9363, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a past commander of the American Legion’s 16th District. He was a member of Flat Rock Lodge ~ 1731, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; Woodhaven Lodge, Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Downriver Veterans Honor Guard. | Surviving are his wife; his mother, Thelma Book of Findlay; two sons, David (Janell) and Jerry, both of Flat Rock; two daughters, Sharon Jacoby of Arizona and Shirley Elkins of Bidwell, Ohio; a brother, Floyd of Findlay; 10 grandchildren, two stepgrand- children, and four great-grand- children.
