Ben- nett Sr., 72, a former Flat Rock clerk and long-time school board member, died at 11:25 a.m. Fri- day. at Seaway Hospital, Trenton, where he had been for a week with a heart ailment. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. | Sunday and noon to 9 p.m. Mon- day at the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, Flat Rock Chapel, where a Scripture service is set for 8:45 p.m. Monday and pragers will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Roch’s Catholic Church, Flat Rock. The Rev. Fred Misiolek will officiate. Burial will be in Huron Valley Cemetery, Flat Rock. Born June 20, 1920, in Penns- grove, N.J., he was the son of Edwin R. and Blanche (Bellinger) Bennett. He married Yvonne M. King on Feb. 3, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rockwood. | He had worked as a plant super- intendent for Petroleum Special- ties of Flat Rock since 1946 and was a private flight instructor and an FAA flight examiner. He served in the U.S. Navy for 36 years, retiring as a captain. A ° 1942 graduate of the Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Fla., he was a Navy flight instructor. He was a member of St. Roch’s Catholic Church; the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association; the Experimental Aircraft Association and Family Motor Coach Associa- tion. He was elected Flat Rock vil- lage clerk in 1955 and served two terms. He also was a member of the Flat Rock Community Schools Board of Education from 1965 to 1985 and served several years as its president. Surviving are his wife; a son, Edwin V. Bennett of Brownstown Township; two daughters, Mrs. James (Caroline) Diesi of Chicago and Mrs. Gregory (Patricia) Larkins of Largo, Fla.; and three brothers, William, Melvin and Donald, all of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; a sister, Joan Hessler; and a granddaughter.
